Radiohead In Rainbows Released October 10

Giant screams of “Oh MY GOD!” catapulted across our apartment this morning as Sean discovered that Radiohead’s new album, In Rainbows is not only being released in less than 2 weeks with absolutely no lead up or warning, but it is available for download only from their website.

How is that for an “Up Yours!” to record companies the world over?!

Hah! Only Radiohead could pull this off. A special discbox version of the album will be released in December, however you can only get that via their website and you need to order it as each album is made to order. Its a fancy shmancy vinyls/album/photographic journey/ artwork dealio made especially for fans.

This is music history. No other band has ever attempted to say ‘we can do this without your money’, no other band has stuck it so royally to the money grubbing, control freak, commercial arsekissers that are record companies.

Oh and the absolute kicker of this whole thing…when you pre-order the download, they ask YOU if you would like to donate towards the making of the album. You have a choice as to whether or not you pay for Radiohead’s newest album.

History in the making, kiddos. What a splendid day to be a music fan.

Roid Week on Flickr

Some clever chappies over on Flickr came up with Roid Week last year. I was about 2 days too late to contribute last time, but I am ready and waiting to shoot for Roid Week which starts tomorrow Monday 1st October and goes all week obviously.

Baker MakerI’ve got photography gigs happening all over these 2 weeks I have off so it should be fun. On Tuesday I’m going to shoot a friend’s band who are recording their first album.
Most people are excited about football this weekend but I’m more happy about camera expeditions.

Oh, did I announce that I’m going to be a cousin again? Cousin? Big deal? Yeah it is, tis the first bubba in our family in 14 years and the mother is my aunt who is more like a sister to me. Its her first child so we are all extremely excited. She’s only 19 weeks along so we still have a way to go yet but how bloody exciting!

Join the Roid Week group on flickr, people! Should be great laughs!

Bjork in Sydney..I will die happy

Its confirmed, the lady who howls is on her way to Sydney.

bjork-volta-splash1.jpg

Not only will she play BDO, but she is also doing a special Opera House gig as a side show as part of the Sydney Festival. I can hardly contain my excitement and here I was just posting about how this year has been pretty low on the excitement list for rock shows. Although I guess it will actually be 2008, so 2007 still blows. January 23 to be exact.
Not only will I FINALLY get to see my favourite artist perform live, she coming to Australia means Sean won’t be dumping my arse anytime soon hehe

I’m so freakin excited about this that I may even be inspired to go see some bands in the next week and even perhaps take some photos.

The big rumours of course, are that The Arcade Fire are also playing Big Day Out. FBI made a very big mention of that this morning. There are rumours still of Interpol and Smashing Pumpkins also. All those bands would be incredible but it would mean too many clashes!

The above photograph was taken by the very talented rock photographer chick, Carrie Musgrave. Check out her awesome rock shots on her website Live Baby Live and her flickr account here. I hope you don’t mind me sharing your photo, Carrie!
So I don’t have a Bjork website, how the hell am I going to get a photo pass to that gig?! :D

Bjork AND The Arcade Fire?

Sean will have you believe that Her Royal Bjorkness and The Arcade Fire are almost definitely coming early next year. I heard a snippet of something about it on FBI but I’m not sure what they were saying.

Oh my, it would be Christmas x 2. Christmas and then Christmas again and then again. On our sunny December 25th it would be as though the North Pole ascended all its white, fluffy gloriousness upon us. I’m getting tingly at the mere thought of them both…or them ALL.

This year has been pretty quiet for rock shows for me. I think I had rockstar encounter overload last year with U2 and this year has fallen a little flat. I’ve hardly shot any bands, haven’t been to a tenth of the shows I usually do but I will be ready and swinging if she that howls graces our shores.

Seeing as I have no rock stars to shoot, I waste time with this sillyness.

Fur is for petting

Right now I’m seriously still lusting over : Canon 40D- neither Nikon or Canon took up my challenge, so with Canon I shall stay methinks. Unless I win lotto and can then afford the mother of a photography instrument that is the D3.

We saw Super Bad tonight. Total boy flick but super funny. Michael Cera is a comic genius.

The Dark Side

Too scary?

This is a first…a dark, non super pretty blog template! I’m not sure I like it just yet. I can’t really take credit either. Check down in the footer. I pretty much stole the whole thing. I don’t really like having my blog looking like 800 other blogs however I wanted to just test out how I liked the dark side before doing too much to it.
I do like how photographs look on the dark however.

I have spoken about how one of my closest friends got married in the holidays and I missed the wedding. I was at another one in Boston at the time. So yesterday, K&D invited Sean and me to come watch them renew their vows. It was all because they were finalists in a competition to win a honeymoon. They didn’t win but it was fun to be there at their “fake wedding” even if I wasn’t there for the real one.

Bouquet Again

When we arrived, bouquets were being handed out, there were brides dressed in gowns and heart shaped balloons floating in the breeze. As we approached the tent, Sean turned to me and announced, “this isn’t some ploy to trick me into marrying you is it?!”

Ah, romance.
