Waiting In Airports

So The Canadian is back from Maui, now a surfer and new iPod owner, which means I score his old one.
Awesome because mine is super retro so much so that I got excited about the colour screen.

I did not take this photograph. A Hawaiian man with a big lens did.

Waiting in airports is like looking through a stranger’s photo album. You wait patiently in the hopes that your loved one is the one walking out next and when its not, you stay on those who did walk out with smiles, pondering about where they’ve just arrived from. Is this home? Have they been away long? I like to play a little game and guess which traveller belongs to which greeting party. If I guess correctly, I score myself Krispy Kreme donut points.

To pass the time, I even try to guess where the travellers have been by the bags they are carrying or the t shirts they are wearing. Sometimes the t shirts are far too obvious. Yesterday a family arrived wearing grass woven hats, while one man had the obligatory HAWAII 08 shirt across his rather rotund stomach. I wonder about the presents they have in their I Heart NY bags and why they got through customs so quickly by my traveller didn’t.
Most of all, I get all cheesy and love the same thing Hugh Grant loves about the airport. The arrivals gate is always full of smiling, happy people overjoyed with hugs and kisses for their loved ones. It makes me happy just seeing their smiling faces. Its a guarantee.
Now here is a little current selection of photographs nothing to do with the airport.

Christmas already?…but look at those bokeh balls.

Too Early!

I’m the Next Act

  • Thom Yorke can make the word videotape sound beautiful. Its not a pretty word really, but when he sings it, it turns into a soft and pretty sound. Incredible.
  • Etcetera, etcetera is my new favourite phrase but it has to be said with that fabulous contempt.
  • Did the cat get your tongue? YEAH! …crazy bass….YEAH!…arse shaking good.

  • Bodysnatchers is my favourite today. It will change tomorrow.

Canon’s Photo 5 …and woe is me

So Sean is in Maui.
I am not.

Fun times.

Apparently he’s going surfing tomorrow and just bought himself a new fancy shmancy iPod.
I’m watching videos on youtube.

No, I’m not jealous! OK, so maybe a little. I’m actually more upset that we aren’t sharing experiences like that together. Although, I have been to Hawaii 3 times, so I guess I’ll survive. I’ve demanded lots of photographs.
Morning Stop @ Gloria JeansSpeaking of photographs..(don’t ya just love my segues?), Canon are running a cool competition at the moment called Photo 5. The first 2500 people to send in their details would be offered the opportunity to participate in a creative interpretation comp. My box of goodies arrived this week and I have started on some of my entries. The objects that have to be included in the photographs in some way are a piece of chalk, a red balloon, a blue sheet of cellophane and some yellow dot stickers. I’ve got ideas for the chalk and balloon but have no bloody idea what the hell I’m going to do with yellow dots and cellophane. Using the cellophane as a filter is a bit too obvious.

I actually really need to use some kids. Anyone wanna loan me their 4/5/6 yr old? I’m a teacher for god’s sake, so you’d think I could figure something out but yeah, its not really the done thing.

Like OMG! Its them!

Hilarity at the Nickolodean Kids Awards last week. I just loved the expression I managed to capture on this girl’s face.

In other exciting news, I am currently working on a special photography project with some amazing people who are developing a new travel website. I’m not sure how much I can say as of yet, so I’ll talk more about that when I’m done.

Hope you all had a great weekend, kids!

Jack and Meg have LOMO cameras

and I want one!

The White ones have teamed up with Lomo to sell a Jack Holga and a Meg Diana. Of course where it usually reads Diana on the lens, it now reads MEG. How awesome!

My camera lusting and wanting is out of control.
